Speech for Emily's Kids
Soon Winter will be over and we will be able to warm up to Spring! This is a great time of year for using all of our senses and discovering the outdoors again with your children. We can listen to the birds singing their songs, watch caterpillars turn into butterflies and smell the new flowers. Once the cold weather and snow is behind us we will begin focusing on the following Spring vocabulary words:
Animal Vocabulary: bird, frog, duck, bugs, bee, turtle, rabbit,
butterfly, caterpillar Outside Vocabulary: flower, tree, grass, rainbow, rain, clouds, windy Clothing Vocabulary: rain boots, rain hat, umbrella Holiday Vocabulary: shamrock, candy, eggs, basket Spring verbs: digging, planting, walking, running, swinging, coloring, painting Concepts: full, empty, same, different
![]() Here are some reminders when communicating with your child:
· Speak slowly and in a clear voice.
· Simplify your language to make it easier for
your child to understand you.
· Repeat what your child says to you and also expand on it (i.e. if he says "cookie" and you know he wants a cookie say "oh, you want a cookie").· Give your child choices, often two, rather than just give them something.· Allow your child extra time to process what is being said to them and wait for a response. |
