Bornhava Announces Transformative Collaboration for Amherst Campus

Bornhava, a leading provider of services for children with special needs in Western New York, is excited to announce a partnership with two acclaimed architectural firms: CannonDesign, an internationally recognized leader, and Elev8 Architecture, a highly respected firm local firm. Together, they will lead the significant multi-phase renovation and expansion of Bornhava’s Amherst, NY campus building. This strategic collaboration represents a pivotal commitment to creating an even more exceptional and supportive environment for the children and families who rely on Bornhava’s services.

Bornhava was selected by CannonDesign as a recipient of their “In and Of Our Communities” initiative, which provides pro bono services to organizations that make a profound impact on their local communities. Through this initiative, CannonDesign will help create the foundation for a truly transformative space. Their involvement in the initial phases of the project include the development of a conceptual program, early conceptual renderings, and providing project cost estimates.

“We are incredibly honored and grateful to CannonDesign for their generous commitment to Bornhava,” said Shannon Karcher, Executive Director at Bornhava. “Their expertise and vision will be instrumental in shaping a modern, functional, and nurturing environment for our children and their families. This collaboration is a testament to the power of community partnership.”

Following the conceptualization phase, Elev8 Architecture has been chosen to design and bring the project to life. Known for their innovative and community-focused approach, Elev8 Architecture will translate the conceptual plans into a vibrant, accessible, and inclusive space that meets the unique needs of Bornhava’s programs and the children it serves.

“We are thrilled to partner with Bornhava and Elev8 Architecture on a project that will undoubtedly have a lasting positive impact on so many lives,” said Luke Johnson, Associate Vice President at CannonDesign. “Our team is  proud to support the design of a space that fosters growth, learning, and joy for every child who walks through its doors at Bornhava.”

The renovation and expansion project aims to enhance Bornhava’s therapeutic, educational, and support services, ensuring that children with special needs continue to receive the highest quality care in an environment designed for their success.

To fund this vital project, Bornhava is launching a comprehensive capital campaign titled “Building Their Lives. Building Our Future.” This campaign will seek support from individuals, foundations, and corporations committed to investing in the potential of Western New York’s children with special needs. Further details regarding project timelines and community engagement opportunities will be announced in the coming months.
